Guru Gita (गुरुगीता) - selected verses from the hymn that extols the glory of the guru as the embodiment of the supreme truth. It is part of the Skanda Purana and is chanted by spiritual seekers across India.
|| गुरुगीता (चयनित श्लोकाः) ||
गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः । गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥१॥
gururbrahmā gururviṣṇuḥ gururdevo maheśvaraḥ | guruḥ sākṣāt paraṃ brahma tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ ||1||
The guru is Brahma, the guru is Vishnu, the guru is the great lord Shiva. The guru is directly the supreme Brahman. To that revered guru, salutations.
अखण्डमण्डलाकारं व्याप्तं येन चराचरम् । तत्पदं दर्शितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥२॥
akhaṇḍamaṇḍalākāraṃ vyāptaṃ yena carācaram | tatpadaṃ darśitaṃ yena tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ ||2||
The one by whom the entire universe, moving and unmoving, is pervaded. The one who reveals that state (of Brahman). To that revered guru, salutations.
ज्ञानं ज्ञेयं परं ज्ञाता ध्येयं ध्याता च यत्परम् । अनामा नित्य एकस्त्वं तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥३॥
jñānaṃ jñeyaṃ paraṃ jñātā dhyeyaṃ dhyātā ca yatparam | anāmā nitya ekastvaṃ tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ ||3||
That which is knowledge, the known, and the supreme knower; that which is meditation, the meditator, and the highest object of meditation; the nameless, eternal, one - to that revered guru, salutations.
