About this stotra

Matsya Stotram (मत्स्यस्तोत्रम्) - a hymn to Lord Matsya, the fish incarnation of Vishnu who saved the Vedas and the sage Manu from the great deluge. He represents the preservation of knowledge through all cycles of time.

|| मत्स्यस्तोत्रम् ||

मत्स्यरूपं महादेवं दिव्यज्ञानप्रदायकम् । वेदानुद्धरते देवं मत्स्यमीशं नमाम्यहम् ॥१॥

matsyarūpaṃ mahādevaṃ divyajñānapradāyakam | vedānuddharate devaṃ matsyamīśaṃ namāmyaham ||1||

I bow to Matsya, the great lord in fish form, the bestower of divine knowledge, the god who rescued the Vedas, the lord Matsya.

मनुं प्लवेन संरक्ष्य वेदानपि च रक्षया । कृपया कुरु मां देव रक्षितं तव पादयोः ॥२॥

manuṃ plavena saṃrakṣya vedānapi ca rakṣayā | kṛpayā kuru māṃ deva rakṣitaṃ tava pādayoḥ ||2||

Having protected Manu with the boat and having saved the Vedas, O god, protect me with your grace at your feet.
