About this stotra

Dhumavati Stotram (धूमावतीस्तोत्रम्) - a hymn to Goddess Dhumavati, the widow goddess who represents the transformative power of loss and dissolution. She is the teacher who reveals truth through the smoke of burnt illusions.

|| धूमावतीस्तोत्रम् ||

धूमावतीं महादेवीं रूक्षाक्षीं विकटाननाम् । नानालङ्कारशून्यां च प्रणमामि दिगम्बरीम् ॥१॥

dhūmāvatīṃ mahādevīṃ rūkṣākṣīṃ vikaṭānanām | nānālaṅkāraśūnyāṃ ca praṇamāmi digambarīm ||1||

I bow to Dhumavati, the great goddess with smoky eyes and a fearsome face, devoid of all ornaments, clothed in the directions.

क्षुधार्तां पिपासार्तां च भिक्षाहस्तां सदा स्थिताम् । कलहप्रीतिमनसं धूमावतीं नमाम्यहम् ॥२॥

kṣudhārtāṃ pipāsārtāṃ ca bhikṣāhastāṃ sadā sthitām | kalahaprītimanasāṃ dhūmāvatīṃ namāmyaham ||2||

I bow to Dhumavati, afflicted by hunger and thirst, always with a begging bowl, delighting in quarrels.
