Shyamala Stotram (श्यामलास्तोत्रम्) - a hymn to Goddess Shyamala (Matangi), the dark goddess of wisdom, music, and eloquence. She is the form of the divine mother who presides over learning and the arts.
|| श्यामलास्तोत्रम् ||
श्यामलां श्यामलां देवीं वीणाहस्तां मनोहराम् । नमामि नित्यं देवेशीं मातङ्गीं विद्यादायिनीम् ॥ १ ॥
śyāmalāṃ śyāmalāṃ devīṃ vīṇāhastāṃ manoharām | namāmi nityaṃ deveśīṃ mātaṅgīṃ vidyādāyinīm || 1 ||
I bow always to Shyamala, the dark goddess, holding the veena, enchanting, the queen of goddesses, Matangi, the bestower of knowledge.
स्वरार्णवं विचिन्वन्ती नादब्रह्मप्रकाशिनी । ज्ञानप्रदा सदा मह्यं श्यामला त्रायतां माम् ॥ २ ॥
svarārṇavaṃ vicinvantī nādabrahmaprakāśinī | jñānapradā sadā mahyaṃ śyāmalā trāyatāṃ mām || 2 ||
May Shyamala, who explores the ocean of melodies, who reveals the Brahman of sound, who always bestows knowledge, protect me.
