Sri Rudram (Selected Verses)
|| श्रीरुद्रम् (चयनित श्लोकाः) ||
नमस्ते रुद्र मन्यव उतोत इषवे नमः । नमस्ते अस्तु धन्वने बाहुभ्यामुत ते नमः १॥
namaste rudra manyava utota iṣave namaḥ | namaste astu dhanvane bāhubhyāmuta te namaḥ ||1||
Salutations to your anger, O Rudra, and to your arrow, salutations. Salutations to your bow, and to your arms, salutations.
या त इषुः शिवतमा शिवं बभूव ते धनुः । शिवा शरव्या या तव तया नो रुद्र मृडय २॥
yā ta iṣuḥ śivatamā śivaṃ babhūva te dhanuḥ | śivā śaravyā yā tava tayā no rudra mṛḍaya ||2||
May your arrow be most auspicious, may your bow be auspicious. May your arrows be auspicious — with these, O Rudra, be gracious to us.
नमो रुद्रेभ्यो ये पृथिव्यां येऽन्तरिक्षे ये दिवि । येषामन्नं वातो वर्षमिषवस्तेभ्यो नमः ३॥
namo rudrebhyo ye pṛthivyāṃ ye’ntarikṣe ye divi | yeṣāmannaṃ vāto varṣamiṣavastebhyo namaḥ ||3||
Salutations to the Rudras on earth, in the sky, and in heaven. Their food is the wind, their arrows are the rains. To them, salutations.
नमः स्थेभ्यो नमः सृतेभ्यो नमः सद्योद्रुग्भ्यः । नमः सद्योद्रुग्भ्यो नमः सृतेभ्यो नमः स्थेभ्यः ४॥
namaḥ sthebhyo namaḥ sṛtebhyo namaḥ sadyodrugbhyaḥ | namaḥ sadyodrugbhyo namaḥ sṛtebhyo namaḥ sthebhyaḥ ||4||
Salutations to those who stand, to those who move, to those who strike swiftly. Salutations to those who strike swiftly, to those who move, to those who stand.
नमः काष्ठानां पतये नमो भूतानां पतये । नमो वनस्पतीनां पतये नमो वनस्पतये ५॥
namaḥ kāṣṭhānāṃ pataye namo bhūtānāṃ pataye | namo vanaspatīnāṃ pataye namo vanaspataye ||5||
Salutations to the lord of quarters, to the lord of beings, to the lord of forests, to the lord of vegetation.
नम उन्मार्गेषु यातृभ्यः सम्मार्गेषु यातृभ्यः । नम उन्मार्गेषु यातृभ्यो नमः सम्मार्गेषु यातृभ्यः ६॥
nama unmārgeṣu yātṛbhyaḥ sammārgeṣu yātṛbhyaḥ | nama unmārgeṣu yātṛbhyo namaḥ sammārgeṣu yātṛbhyaḥ ||6||
Salutations to those who travel on wrong paths and on right paths. Salutations to all.
नमः सोमाय च रुद्राय च नमस्तम्राय चारुणाय च । नमः शङ्गवाय च पशुपतये च नम उग्राय च भीमाय च ७॥
namaḥ somāya ca rudrāya ca namastamrāya cāruṇāya ca | namaḥ śaṅgavāya ca paśupataye ca nama ugrāya ca bhīmāya ca ||7||
Salutations to Soma and Rudra, to the copper-colored and the red. Salutations to the lord of beings, fierce and terrible.
नमः स्वस्त्ययनाय च स्वस्तिदाय च नमः कालाय च कलिकाय च । नमो नीलग्रीवाय च ध्रुवाय च ८॥
namaḥ svastyayanāya ca svastidāya ca namaḥ kālāya ca kalikāya ca | namo nīlagrīvāya ca dhruvāya ca ||8||
Salutations to the bestower of well-being and peace, to time and to destruction. Salutations to the blue-necked and the steadfast.
नमः शर्वाय च पशुपतये च नमो नीलग्रीवाय च शितिकण्ठाय च । नमः कपर्दिने च व्युप्तकेशाय च ९॥
namaḥ śarvāya ca paśupataye ca namo nīlagrīvāya ca śitikaṇṭhāya ca | namaḥ kapardine ca vyuptakeśāya ca ||9||
Salutations to Sharva and Pashupati, to the blue-necked and the white-throated. Salutations to the one with matted locks and flowing hair.
नमो भवाय च रुद्राय च नमः शर्वाय च पशुपतये च । नमो नीलग्रीवाय च शितिकण्ठाय च नमः कपर्दिने च १०॥
namo bhavāya ca rudrāya ca namaḥ śarvāya ca paśupataye ca | namo nīlagrīvāya ca śitikaṇṭhāya ca namaḥ kapardine ca ||10||
Salutations to Bhava and Rudra, to Sharva and Pashupati. Salutations to the blue-necked and white-throated, to the one with matted locks.
ॐ नमः शिवाय गुरवे सच्चिदानन्दमूर्तये । निष्प्रपञ्चाय शान्ताय निरालम्बाय तेजसे ११॥
oṃ namaḥ śivāya gurave saccidānandamūrtaye | niṣprapañcāya śāntāya nirālambāya tejase ||11||
Om. Salutations to Shiva, the teacher, the embodiment of existence-consciousness-bliss. To the one beyond all manifestation, the peaceful, the self-supported, the radiant.
